NWN Ground Ball Class

NWN Ground Ball Class

The Northwest Nationals Ground Ball Class is a high-intensity defensive training session designed to sharpen infield fundamentals through focused footwork, glove work, angles, and rapid-repetition drills. This program helps athletes build confidence, improve defensive consistency, and develop the advanced movements required to compete at higher levels.

Program Features:

  • Small Group Sizes: Ensuring athletes receive individual attention for their development.

  • High Intensity and Focus: Emphasis on core defensive fundamentals, pre-pitch setup, glove work, footwork, picks, angles, and body control.

  • Throwing & Footwork Mechanics: Emphasis on proper footwork, throwing progressions, quick transitions, and accurate arm action across the field.

  • Elite Coaching Staff: Led by current and former college coaches and athletes

Progressive Development:

  • Foundation First: Begin with basic fielding mechanics, ready position, glove presentation, footwork, and timing.

  • Controlled Repetitions: Use slow-rolling ground balls to build consistency and confidence in fundamental movements.

  • Footwork Progression: Introduce various footwork patterns (e.g., right-left fielding steps, shuffle footwork, crossover) as players show competence.

  • Angle Awareness: Train players on approaching the ball from different angles to improve reads and efficiency.

  • Speed & Tempo Adjustments: Gradually increase ball speed and introduce faster game-like reps as skills improve.

  • Situational Fielding IQ: Teach players how to read game situations, runners, outs, and ball trajectory to make smart, efficient decisions under pressure.

  • Performance Tracking: Monitor individual progress through skill assessments and milestone benchmarks.
